As all you theatre fans will know the revival of The Wizard of Oz is due to be coming soon to the West End and now it has been confirmed that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s forthcoming show will take over from Sister Act at the London Palladium Theatre in March 2011.

No doubt if you’re a big fan of musicals you will have also been closely following the BBC show Over the Rainbow which is looking to find the best Dorothy and Toto to star in the new production.

The winner of the TV talent show will go on to tread the boards at the Palladium Theatre and the show is due to open on the 29th March 2011. Currently there are four remaining finalists hoping to win the part of Dorothy on the BBC show, which follows the same TV formula as previous shows including How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? and Any Dream Will Do which found new talent to star in The Sound of Music and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Unlike Joseph, which showed at the Adelphi Theatre, The Wizard of Oz will be showing at the prestigious London Palladium. The winner of the competition will be announced at the end of May.

The current show at the London Palladium, Sister Act the musical, will have its last performance on the 1st January 2011 in order to make way for the setup of The Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz will be a production of the L Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was made into a film in 1939 starring Judy Garland and has proved to be a massive family favourite so no doubt the stage adaptation will go down a treat with audiences in the West End.
